Day 188: Wet Pines

Day 188: Wet Pines

Another late day shower. The pine trees in the parking lot still had droplets of water when the sun emerged from behind the clouds.

Day 186: Roadside Flower

A flower growing by the side of the road near our apartment.

Day 183: Fiery Sunset

Day 183: Fiery Sunset

I was working late and just happened to step out for a while (okay, I used the bathroom) and saw the fiery sunset from the lobby. I quickly ran to my office to grab my camera, and then ran to one of the empty offices in the building to take a few shots.

Day 174: Green Clouds

Day 174: Green Clouds

Clouds off in the horizon, as seen from my office window. I suspect that my window’s glass is to blame for the green tint (maybe whatever inert gas is in between the panes is refracting the light somehow?). And maybe the ghost images are from the double panes.

Day 172: Dying Butterfly

Day 172: Dying Butterfly

Seems the only time I can take a decent butterfly picture is when my subject is in its death throes.

This poor butterfly was just on the pavement. In the morning, it still had its wings closed. When it tried to fly away, it would just end up on the ground.

By the afternoon, it was probably too weak to keep its wings folded.

By late afternoon, it was dead.

Day 166: Butterfly (and its Tongue)

Day 166: Butterfly (and its Tongue)

I’ve been seeing this tiny butterfly hanging out on the tables at the back of the office for a few days already, but I never had my camera with me. This time, I did.

It’s actually quite colorful when it opens its wings, where the patters are. Its wings’ underside looks pretty drab, making me initially think that it might have been a moth, but I don’t think moths need a tongue that long.

Day 165: Nightfall at the Office

Day 165: Nightfall at the Office

The sun was setting, and I was still in the office. This shot was taken from the building’s atrium.

I mistakenly shot it in the wrong white balance, but it looked better with that setting, so I just used it.

Day 162: Dying Dragonfly

Friday, June 11th, 2010
Day 162: Dying Dragonfly

A big dragon fly. It must have been 3 inches or longer. It was, however, dying. It was trying to fly off, but just couldn’t. I suspect it fell victim to insecticide that I saw some lawn care workers spraying around the perimeter of the office buildling the day before.

Day 161: Instant Pond

Day 161: Instant Pond

A strong summer afternoon storm bore down on us, but it went as quickly as it came. The sudden downpour was too much for the sewer system to handle, and for about half an hour, we had a pig bond in the parking lot.

Day 160: Tie a Green Ribbon ’round the old Pine tree

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010
Day 160: Tie a Green Ribbon 'round the old Pine tree

At least two trees behind our office have these green ribbons tied around them, and I think we figured out what they mean. We noticed that the other pine tree, like this one, was losing its needles. The ribbon might be a marking about the condition of the tree (maybe an infestation of some sort). I hope it means they’ll treat it to make it better, and not just cut it down.
