Day 151: Little White Flowers

Day 151: Little White Flowers

Today’s Memorial Day, and my wife and I just enjoyed the holiday by staying at home (we were still tired from the picnic the day before).

I thought I would have to think hard for my photo for the day, since I wouldn’t be leaving my place today, but I saw that the shrubs in front of our apartment was starting to bloom with white small flowers (that smell nice, by the way).

Day 150: Kayaker

Day 150: Kayaker

It’s the Memorial Day weekend, and we went up to a reservoir for a picnic. Off in the distance, I saw a kayaker on the water. I waited for him to sail by and pressed the shutter release.

Day 149: Phoenix vs. Dragon

Day 149: Phoenix vs. Dragon

It’s my aunt’s birthday, and she celebrated by treating everyone out for lunch (if you’re not Filipino, you probably think that doesn’t make sense, but that’s how we do it). She picked a Chinese restaurant nearby.

The whole ceiling of the place were covered with these phoenix and dragon decorations. This was the one directly over my head.

Day 148: Street Lamp and Avaya Building

Day 148: Street Lamp and Avaya Building

Not much in the way of creativity today. It was the end of the day, and I was about to step into my car thinking that I still had no shot for the day, then I looked to my left.

The lamp post was on my side of the street, and the big satellite dish-inspired building is on the other side. I don’t know what it was about this scene, but I thought I’d take a picture of it.

Day 147: Cloudcast

Day 147: Cloudcast

I had just pulled out of my parking spot and was on my way out of the parking lot when I noticed how the clouds were casing shadows because of the sun hiding behind it. Luckily, the parking lot was almost empty, so I quickly did a U-turn and parked in another parking slot.

I quickly grabbed my camera and realized that I still had my ultra-wide angle lens on, so I ran back to the car and hurriedly changed lenses. In the short amount of time it took to switch to my medium zoom lens (about 30 seconds of digging in my bag and making the actual switch), the shadows had become a lot less dramatic.

I took a shot anyway, and here’s the result.

Day 146: Bike by Building

Day 146: Bike by Building

I’m still in the process of discovering what my new lens can do and how I can/should use it.

This the a bike of one of the cleaning crew staff, whom I know reasonably well because I always work late and I’m often still around when they come to clean the office building.

Day 145: Infinite Tree Barks

Day 145: Infinite Tree Barks

These tree barks just happened to arrange themselves in this pattern on the pavement. It acted as a conversation starter with my friend, who noticed how they look almost like an infinity symbol. My friend then went on to say how he’s always wondered about the mysterious nature of infinity, and that if you had a sequence on numbers that goes [1, 2, 3, ...] and [10, 20, 30, ...], the sum of the numbers in each set would be infinity, but the sum of [10, 20, 30, ...] would be larger than that of [1, 2, 3, ...]. ‘There’s probably a mathematical way to prove it, but I’ll take his word for it.

I told him that because of that (arguably) fascinating conversation, I had to take a picture of the conversation starter for posterity.

Day 144: The Office at Sunset

Day 144: The Office at Sunset

Finally, after three months of careful consideration and two weeks of waiting for delivery, my new toy arrived: an ultra-wide angle lens!

On the way to my car after work, I looked back and saw the sun reflecting off of the corner of our office’s glass exterior. I thought I might as well give my new lens a whirl.

I’m still in the process of trying to learn how to use it properly, but from this very brief test, I can already tell that it’s going to be fun using this lens.

Day 143: Living-Dead (Bug)

Day 143: Living-Dead (Bug)

I saw this bug by my car on the parking lot at sunset. I quickly grabbed my camera from inside my bag and switched to my telephoto and close-up lens.

It was only after about a minute of shooting as furiously as I could (trying to get as much before the bug flew or walked away) did I realize that it was actually a carcass.

Day 142: Timber

Day 142: Timber

We went to our friends’ housewarning slash graduation slash barbecue party. And this is Timber, one of our hosts’ friends’ dogs.

I was shooting him as he was gnawing on a bone when my friend said she could make things more interesting. She then proceeded to throw a log section (yes, a log), as if she were playing fetch with him. Timber went crazy with it. The log was almost a foot in diameter, and he was trying to put it in his mouth to carry it. It was quite a spectacle, and everyone understood why his name is “Timber”.

This was a shot during one of his short breaks in between attempts to carry the log in his mouth.
