Day 58: Back-lit White Rose

Day 58: Back-lit White Rose

More photos of the roses, this time the white one.

It was a complete accident that I ended up putting a lamp behind the rose for back lighting. I was just trying to throw more like on the white backdrop when I noticed that the lamp behind the rose and the light that shone through the petals made it a little more interesting.

I threw in my fuzzy red blanket (which made its first appearance in my Valentine’s day photo) in the background to add more color.

Day 57: Red Rose Close-up

Day 57: Red Rose Close-up

I forgot all about the roses I bought earlier. I put them in the fridge to prolong their freshness. I grabbed something to eat and noticed that they’ve opened further. I thought I’d take more pictures of them to maximize the money I spent.

Day 56: Day 56 Onwards

Day 56: Day 56 Onwards

I’ve been seeing these kinds of subjects for a while. I started shooting my calculator, but then noticed my keyboard’s keypad and how there’s a right arrow on the 6. Couldn’t quite get the arrow into the field of focus, though.

Found it interesting that adjusting the curves made the 5 and 6 stay white and the rest off-white.

Day 55: Indian Figurines

Day 55: Indian Figurines

I had a craving for chicken curry since this afternoon, so after work I went to have dinner at a local Indian restaurant.

In a glass display, among copper pots and plates, were these porcelain figurines. It was very dim in the restaurant and I had to turn up the ISO to get a decent shot. I wanted to brighten the image up some more, but it made the ISO noise too conspicuous.

Day 54: Missing Tooth

Day 54: Missing Tooth

I was pondering vanity one morning as I was combing my hair in front of the mirror while getting ready for work. As soon as I began thinking about it, my comb slipped from my fingers and fell on the sink, breaking one of the teeth off.

I then wondered if the universe was trying to tell me something.

Day 53: Hallway

Day 53: Hallway

One of the office building hallways. I took the shot on my way to my car.

I’m surprised how making the photo black and white and adding a little grain to simulate film makes it look a little creepy. I’m glad the hallway doesn’t look this ominous in real life because I walk through here late at night almost daily.

Day 52: Chinese Roast Ducks

Day 52: Chinese Roast Ducks

I seem to be shooting a lot of subjects that have “Chinese”  in their names.

I went out to have a late lunch of Dimsum with two of my good friends. I knew there was a good chance that the restaurant would have Chinese roast ducks on display in the usual way–on metal hooks behind glass, but the display at the restaurant wasn’t very impressive. Just three ducks, and the glass had greasy streaks. I thought I’d have to shelve the idea for another day yet again.

Then it turned out that my friends were going to the Asian market afterwards. I was out of rice and a few other Asian condiments, so I came along with them.

This is what they had on display at the Asian market.

Day 51: Chinese Golden Fire Pig

Day 51: Chinese Golden Fire Pig

I made a DIY lightbox following by following these instructions from the Strobist blog.

I thought I’d try out my new creation on a gift from my Chinese friend. 2007 was the year of the Golden Fire Pig. Three years ago he gave me this small keychain of a pig holding on to a Chinese gold ingot.

I didn’t notice until post processing that the light sources reflected off of the dome portion of the gold ingot.

Day 50: Office Atrium

Day 50: Office Atrium

I didn’t have too many ideas for today, and I was ready to go home from the office hours before I did. I thought I’d just snap a photo of the office building’s atrium and call it my photo for the day.

Day 49: Just Water for Me, Please

Day 49: Just Water for Me, Please

Went out for lunch at a local Italian restaurant. They serve water with a slice of lemon.
